Bennington Theater Opens 2026 Season with A Doll’s House, Part 2

A sharp, funny, and provocative look at marriage, independence, and the cost of freedom.

BENNINGTON, VT — Bennington Theater opens its 2026 season with A Doll’s House, Part 2 by Lucas Hnath and directed by David Dubov-Flinn, a bold and entertaining sequel to A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen. Performances run March 27–April 5, with shows Fridays and Saturdays at 7 PM and Sundays at 2 PM.

Fifteen years ago, Nora Helmer made one of the most famous exits in theater history when she walked out on her husband and children in pursuit of independence. Now she’s back. In this witty, fast-paced follow-up, Nora returns to the home she once abandoned, forcing her family to confront the fallout of her choice and sparking a spirited debate about love, marriage, gender roles, and what it truly means to live a free life.

Though written more than a century after Ibsen’s original, A Doll’s House, Part 2 feels remarkably timely. In a moment when communities everywhere, including here in Bennington, are grappling with questions about equality, autonomy, and the evolving roles of women and families, the play offers an entertaining and thought-provoking lens through which to examine those ideas together. Equal parts comedy, intellectual sparring match, and emotional reckoning, the play invites audiences to wrestle with big questions long after the curtain falls.

The cast features Stephanie Phelan as Nora, Shawn Paper as Torvald, Hope Jasper as Anne Marie, and Tess McHugh as Emmy.

special talkback with the cast and creative team will follow the Sunday, March 29 matinee, giving audiences the chance to continue the conversation sparked by the play.

A Doll’s House, Part 2 marks the first production of Bennington Theater’s 2026 season, kicking off a year of dynamic performances in downtown Bennington. Season passes are available now, offering audiences the best way to experience the full lineup of upcoming productions.
