About the Show
Nuncrackers: The Nunsense Christmas Musical takes place in real time in the basement of Mount Saint Helen’s Convent, home of the Little Sisters of Hoboken.
The story centers around the first television Christmas special being taped in the convent’s Cable Access TV Studio, built by Reverend Mother using part of the prize money won by Sister Mary Paul (also known as Amnesia).
The cast includes Reverend Mother Regina, Sister Mary Hubert, Sister Robert Anne, Sister Mary Paul (Amnesia), Sister Mary Leo, and Father Virgil Manly Trott, along with four Mount Saint Helen’s students.
As the sisters prepare and perform their annual Christmas program, audiences can expect plenty of holiday cheer, music, comedy, and the trademark humor that has made the Nunsense series a beloved theatrical favorite.
Cast of Characters
Sister Mary Regina (Reverend Mother)
Mother Superior of the Little Sisters of Hoboken. She strives to maintain order and discipline, but events often spiral beyond her control. Raised in a circus family, her show-business roots and playful sense of humor frequently shine through her tough exterior.
Sister Mary Hubert
Mistress of Novices and second-in-command to Reverend Mother. Having dreamed of becoming a nun her entire life, she often finds herself dealing with complications she believes stem from Mother Superior’s leadership. Practical and grounded, she shares a humorous rivalry with Reverend Mother.
Sister Robert Anne
(Also voices the puppet nun, Sister Mary Annette)
A streetwise nun from Brooklyn, New York. Tough, outspoken, and full of heart, she connects easily with the students because she “speaks their language.” She believes she has star potential and is continually frustrated by Reverend Mother’s refusal to give her a leading role.
Sister Mary Paul (Amnesia)
After being struck on the head with a crucifix, she temporarily lost her memory and forgot her identity. Although she now remembers who she is, she remains delightfully absent-minded and endearing. Sister Mary Paul is also a successful country singer who became the first nun to perform at the Grand Ole Opry.
Sister Mary Leo
Once a novice, Sister Mary Leo has now earned her black veil. She is thrilled to participate in the Christmas show because Reverend Mother has allowed her to dance in The Nutcracker Ballet. Her dream is to become the world's first famous ballerina nun.
Father Virgil Manly Trott
Sister Mary Leo’s brother and a Franciscan priest from Fort Wayne. Raised in the Mississippi Delta, he and Sister Leo performed together as part of the Trott Family Singers. Now the host of his own radio show, he has been invited to help the sisters present a successful Christmas special.
Mount Saint Helen’s Students
Seeking two male and two female performers (18 years or older) who can portray younger students.
