SPEAK SOONER—Comfort or Conflict in End-of-Life Care: A Discussion About What’s Missing with Advance Directives

May 24, 2022 @ 6:00 pm 8:00 pm EDT

This SpeakSooner® Community Education program will be live at Bennington Performing Arts Center and streamed through the speaksooner.org website on May 24 at 6pm. Register for the event at www.speaksooner.org/programs/comfort-or-conflict/

The program will include a documentary film, PROGNOSIS – notes on living, a panel discussion and Q&A.

In recent years there have been initiatives urging people to complete an advance directive. But, do advance directives stand the test of time?

The award-winning film, Prognosis, provides a valuable example of how end-of-life care can look. This film will be the springboard for our panel to offer multiple perspectives on this critical community conversation about what matters at the end of life.

Our panelists: Michael J Welther, MD; attorney, John Whalen; Nancy Iserman, MSW; and patient, Jenna Peeler bring their personal and professional experience to a discussion about issues surrounding these important decisions. CCM Executive Director, Bernard M Bandman, PhD will moderate.

The event is free and open to the public.

In perhaps her bravest act, Oscar-winning documentarian and LGBTQ+ activist Debra Chasnoff responds to her diagnosis of a deadly disease by turning the camera on herself, her wife and their chosen family. Clear-eyed and unsentimental, what results is an emotionally raw, funny, and profoundly intimate present-tense diary of a life fiercely lived, and a love worth fighting for.
